Window Tinting on a van

How Much Does Car Window Tinting Cost?

Besides making your car look cooler, you get other benefits as well from tinting your car windows. Both you and the passengers will be protected from heat and UV rays, but you will also prolong your interior and upholstery life. Plus, you and your passengers will have more privacy.

Sure, it would be ideal for making all of your windows black, but that is simply not possible. The laws are stringent, and you can only tint your car windows in certain conditions.

Window Tinting Laws in Australia

The window tint darkness is measured in VLT, which stands for Visible Light Transmission. No tint is permitted on the windscreen, but you can do it on the other windows as long as you respect the laws in your area.

The accepted level of VLT differs from one state to another, and here are the numbers:

  • Front-side windows – 35% in all states

  • Back-side windows – between 15% and 35% depending on the state

  • Rear window – between 15% and 35% depending on the state

These numbers may have changed by the time you have read this article, so make sure to stay updated. Or you can simply come over to our location, and we will make sure to give you the tint that you need while also complying with the current laws and regulations.

How Much Does Car Window Tinting Cost?

The total cost for all permitted windows may range between $200 and $500, while the price for a single-window is around $70. These numbers vary depending on the type and size of your car, such as:

  • Sedan tinting – the price ranges between $200 and $300, and the process takes about 1 or 2 hours.

  • SUV tinting – the price is somewhere between $250 and $400, while the application takes about 3 hours.

  • Wagon tinting – you will end up paying between $250 and $400, and the process will take around 2 hours.

  • Minor hatch tinting – the price ranges between $200 and $300, and the process takes about 1 or 2 hours.

  • Coupe tinting – the price will be somewhere between $300 and $400, and the process takes about 2 or 3 hours.

  • Taxi tinting – you will pay between $200 and $300, and the process takes about 2-3 hours.

  • Van tinting – prices range between $200 and $500, and the application will take between 2 and 4 hours

So the prices differ because of the size of the windows for different types of cars and the type of tinting film you use. Plus, there is also the application price because certain cars with large windows or complex shapes will need more time and effort from the technician.

The prices also differ from one state to another, but the differences are not that big. Another factor that influences the final price is the type of film that you are using. Basic or clear tints are the cheapest, but they don’t offer the same protection as dark tints, reflective tints, ceramic tints and other types.

One more factor to keep in mind: if your car already has a tint applied (whether from the factory or applied by yourself or the previous owner). In this case, you will also pay the technician to remove the previous tint, which requires a bit of time and effort.
